What personal data does Don’t Guess Software Inc. collect?

Don’t Guess Software Inc. collects no personal data from you.

Our PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner – Individual software product collects the financial information, which need not identify you (see  ‘How we protect your data’ below) into a database that remains on your device, and it never leaves unless you choose to share data via your email or backup your data to the Cloud.  At your discretion, your data can be encrypted on your device.  The default for encryption is Off.  If you choose to encrypt, you create a password only you will know.  If you forget that password, your data is effectively lost.  No one can recover it, including us. 

You can backup your data either on a chosen location on your device, or off-device (encryption recommended), such as to the Cloud.  Recovery of the data snapshot you captured can be done, and if encryption has been used, your password will be necessary.  You can choose to have the reporting outputs (personal net worth summaries, balance sheets, and income statements) written to your device in a location you choose.  Be aware that the reports are PDF files and are open text, as a prime motivation for printing out reports is to email them to trusted individuals. 

PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner – Individual does not contain any ads, tracking or analytics.  It is intended for use by adults, and is not directed at children.

 

When visiting our website:

On our website, if visitors choose to leave comments we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here.  After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our website you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on the website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.  We never see what data embedded content collects.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We don’t share your data, ever.  We never have possession, or access to, the data you enter into PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner – Individual.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment on the website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Website visitor comments may be checked through Akismet, an automated spam detection service.

How we protect your data

The PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner – Individual software product collects an array of information necessary for it to perform its mission.  That data is held in a database on your device.  This information is protected in three ways:

  • The software and its associated database is located solely on your computer or device.  The software makes no use of the internet or external storage (excepting your own elective use of email or external storage, such as Cloud).
  • None of the data that is entered into PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner needs to be your truly identifying data (such as names and housing information.  Social Security Numbers, bank or investment account numbers not collected and have no place in the database.  Users are encouraged to use nicknames and similar techniques to prevent losing control of your privacy even if your device and password is stolen.  Enter whatever data you like when you feel a data item might be identifying as long as you keep track of the meanings.
  • In the event you wish to remove PlanButVerify Personal Financial Planner – Individual from your device, the database containing all of your entered data is also removed permanently.

Our website uses the secure https protocol, and uses encryption in all communication.
